Tracee Ellis Ross: More Than Just Diana Ross’ Daughter

When your mom is a singing legend, it’s hard to stand out. But Tracee Ellis Ross (formerly known as Tracey Joy Silberstein) has made a name for herself as a singer, actress, and TV personality. She started out in variety shows and indie films, but really made a splash as the host of The Dish, a pop-culture program on the Lifetime Channel. She also starred as Joan Clayton in the hilarious comedy series Girlfriends, earning two NAACP Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. She later won her third NAACP Image Award for her role in the BET sitcom Reed Between the Lines. But her biggest success came when she played the lead role of Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the hit comedy series Black-ish, earning three NAACP Image Awards and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. And now, she’s back with a vengeance in the spin-off prequel Mixed-ish. Oh, and did we mention she also recorded the soundtrack for the musical The High Note? Yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.

Tracee’s mother is Mo-Town superstar Diana Ross. Diana Ross rose to fame as the lead singer of the female vocal trio The Supremes, which is dubbed as the most successful Mo-Town act of the 1960s. The Supremes were also the best-charting female group of all time, spawning hits such as Baby Love, Stop! In the Name of Love, You Can’t Hurry Love and You Keep Me Hangin’ On. Ross left the Supremes in 1970 and released her debut solo album in the same year. This album featured the chart-topping hit Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. The album also carried the hit song Touch Me in the Morning.
