Frederick Aaron Savage was born on July 9, 1976 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Glencoe, Illinois before he moved to California.
Fred Savage’s first screen performance was at the age of 9 in the TV show Morningstar/Eveningstar. This was when he started his career as a child actor. He then appeared in TV shows The Boy Who Could Fly, Dinosaurs – A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time, The Twilight Zone and Crime Story. He gained national attention when he starred in the 1987 film The Princess Bride with Peter Falk. His most notable role to date was his role as Kevin Arnold in the TV series The Wonder Years. He received two Golden Globe nominations and two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He received these honors at the age of 13, making him the youngest actor ever to receive these acting accolades.
After The Wonder Years ended, Fred returned to high school and later attended Standford University. He continued acting after graduating high school. He starred in the NBC sitcom Working, and took some guest and supporting roles in the late 1990s and 2000s. He starred opposite his brother Ben Savage in the TV show Boy Meets World. He also starred in the comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Fred has also lent his voice to several animated series and features, such as Family Guy, Kim Possible, Justice League Unlimited and Oswald. He continued starring in TV series such as Crumbs. He also took on off-beat roles such as a serial rapist on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2003.
Aside from acting, he has dabbled in producing and directing for shows on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. His producing and directing credits include That’s So Raven, Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place for Disney Channel. Savage also directed two primetime sitcoms including Modern Family and 2 Broke Girls. He has also directed and co-produced the Disney Channel original series, Phil of the Future, where he got nominated for a Directors Guild Award.
