Emily Browning, the talented Australian actress, had always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. But fate had other plans for her when she was discovered as a versatile child actor in a school play at the tender age of 8. And boy, did she make the most of it!
She made her movie debut in 1998 with The Echo of Thunder, an Australian television film, and went on to have roles in Blue Heelers, High Flyers, and Something in the Air. But it was her breakthrough performance in the horror film Ghost Ship in 2002 that really put her on the map. And boy, was it a tricky role! For the difficult underwater scenes, weights were attached to her dress to stop it from obscuring her vision. But that didn’t stop her from winning the Best Young Actress award at the Australian Film Institute Award in the same year, and being nominated for the same award in 2003.
During the filming of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events in 2004, she had the pleasure of working alongside Jim Carey. And boy, did she enjoy it! In fact, she was worried she would be fired for laughing too much. But having to wear high heels to match Liam Aiken in height focused her concentration on trying to walk!
In 2008, author Stephanie Meyer requested her to portray Bella in the Twilight film. But Emily turned it down because she wanted to focus on her studies. However, she did work with Twilight’s director for the film Plush and with Meyer in the film The Host in 2013.
And let’s not forget that in 2011, she was no. 4 in the Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces. Talk about a multi-talented queen!
