Learn about Agnes Storm Holch Povlsen, daughter of Denmark’s biggest billionaire and CEO of Bestseller, tragically lost in the Sri Lanka Easter bombings.

What happened to Agnes Storm Holch Povlsen?

Agnes never had a real chance to grow up or explore the world around her, taken far too soon by cruelly being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whilst her family holidayed at the Shangri La hotel in the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo in 2019, the Easter terrorist attacks began throughout the country with six suicide attacks in total, targeting popular hotels and churches. Bombings occurred throughout the day of the 21st of April and caused the considerable loss of many lives.

At the time the Povlsen parents had four children – Alma, Agnes, Alfred, and Astrid. Following the devastating attacks, the family had to come to terms with the grief of losing all but one of their children. Astrid, Agnes’s younger sister who was ten years old at the time, was the sole survivor of the four siblings.

Even more tragically, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe reflected later that the government was “aware of information” before the bombings but that the intel hadn’t been acted upon. If only it had been, countless lives including the three Povlsen children could have been spared that day.

What was Agnes Povlsen’s nationality?

Agnes was born in Aarhus, the second-largest city in the country Denmark within the Central Denmark region, making her Danish.

How old was Agnes Storm Holch Povlsen?

Agnes was born in 2007 and was only twelve years old at the time of her death in 2019. Her younger brother Alfred, five, and older sister Alma, 15, perished alongside her in the Sri Lankan terrorist attack. She was later brought home to be laid to rest and is buried within the grounds of the largest church in Denmark, the Aarhus Cathedral.

How tall was Agnes Storm Holch Polvsen?

With her death at such an early age, Agnes’s height and weight remain unknown, though she seemed to be a healthy 12-year-old leading up to 2019.

Alma, Agnes’s older sister, shared a photo days before their death:

What was Agnes Povlsen’s net worth?

The Povlsen family fortune would have surely been passed down had Agnes been alive to inherit her share, however being only twelve at the time of her death she was a child and therefore would have had no direct assets of her own.

Some good news for the family

Following the overwhelming agony of the loss of their three oldest children in 2019, the couple Anders and Anne were handed a bittersweet announcement less than a year later – they were expecting twins. Although initially, this must have come as a shock, the pair have called the news “life-affirming.”

On Thursday, March 12th, 2020 the parents welcomed their new additions, two healthy baby girls into the world describing them as their “two little miracles.” In a statement they gave their private secretary, Kristine Monster for the Danish press, she read, “Anne and Anders Holch Povlsen became the parents of two healthy newborn girls, after a good pregnancy and birth with no complications.”

Where did Agnes Storm Holch Povlsen’s family’s fortune come from?

Anders Holch Povlsen’s mammoth $11 billion fortune was inherited from his parents Troels Holch Povlsen and wife Merete Bech Povlsen, who in 1975, co-founded the initially women’s specialty clothing retailer Bestseller, in Ringkøbing, Denmark. The brand expanded exponentially and soon became a chain recognized not just within Europe, but all over the globe. Adding children’s clothing to its collection and then following on with menswear, within the space of just two years between 1986 and 1988, the brand has come to pride itself on minimalistic, fashion-forward Scandinavian designs and now has retail outlets in over forty-five countries including the United States, South Africa, Russia, Thailand, and India.

The company employs over 17,000 staff and the Danish retailer now works with many other brands that incorporate their minimalist fashion ethic. With their clothing targeted towards all sizes, their clean, aesthetically pleasing range of both formal and casual wear lends itself well to current fashion trends. In fact, Bestseller has done so well in its profits for the Povlsen estate that Anders has been able to invest heavily in other retail giants and secured himself almost 30% of British online retailer ASOS, and a 10% share of the German online brand Zalando.

Using his inherited fortune, the billionaire has now amassed an incredible wealth of land, with over 200,000 acres of the Scottish Highlands in his possession, including the 24,000-acre estate of Ben Loyal, also known as the Queen of Scottish Mountains, and a 47,000-acre estate he bought in the shire of Inverness. In Denmark, the Povlsen family are the owners of the old Constantinsborg Estate, where they currently reside throughout most of the year and in Romania, Anders has secured yet more land known as the Carpathian Mountains where he aims to create a conservation reserve for the countries surviving wolves, bears and lynx population.

Agnes Storm Holch Povlsen’s Father vs. Scotland

Billionaire ASOS shareholder Anders has come under fire in 2020 by Scottish locals over controversial plans to build a tourist resort within a secluded village in the Scottish Highlands. Though Anders has always claimed he loves the country dearly and considers himself a key investor in the conservation of the wildlands, residents of the village and surrounding areas are far from happy with plans for the development.

Tongue, a picturesque village in the Highlands located in the North Coast 500, a Scottish tourist destination, is where Anders proposes his new resort. If plans were to go ahead the development would include businesses such as a restaurant, hotel and microbrewery but locals and those with their own businesses here have attacked the planned addition and feel strongly about how the new competition will take negative effect upon their own established trades and the dispute rages on…
